Wait a Minute Mcain Haters

I have recently encountered some outrageous and reactionary thoughts on other blogs and in discussions with my friends who happen to hate Mcain. They are Romney fans who are growing understandably afraid that Mcain will win the nomination (thanks to Romney and Huckabee splitting the same constituency). Their anger has driven them to irrational conclusions listed here:

1) One suggests that Hillary Clinton as President might ultimately be a great thing that will promote the Republicans taking over congress again and then republicans ousting Hillary after 1 term. This option is very bad even if it rings true. As a genuinely concerned patriot the thought of pulling out of a drastically improving Iraq is extremely frightening for me and my family. Think of what would be left behind and how many emboldened terrorists would then feel confident in attacking Americans here or abroad. Even if my friends plan rang true, which is not a given by any stretch of the imagination, you are giving up too much ground in the short run. I have to ask is Mcain really that bad?

2) The aforementioned blogger exclaims that Mcain is so liberal that Barack Obama may be the more conservative and better option. I say think about things before you write them. Obama is still for a near immediate withdrawal from Iraq, he is still pro-choice, he is still for a socialist approach to Medicare and economics. John Mcain is none of those things despite some liberal ideas about campaign finance reform and unclear explanations for his pro-life stance, but it is a pro-life stance none the less.

Make no mistake about it, I am not the biggest Mcain fan in the world, even less so since his dirty trick to label Romney as a "timtable for withdrawal" guy, and I am voting for Romney while desperately hoping that Mike Huckabee gets past his archaic baptist fed conceptions of Mormonism and drops out and endorses/teams up with Romney which assuredly would seal up the nomination.

The bottom line is this... John Mcain may not be the best option for president, but if the options are him or a democrat, trust me he is still a better option, and he has a good chance of winning against Hillary because no one, save a resurrected Ronald Reagan, can turn out the republican base like Hillary Clinton.
