40th Anniversary of the Assasination of Dr. Martin Luther King jr.

40 years ago today MLK jr. was assasinated. I wanted to honor him on this blog dedicated to conservativism because I think his theories on racial justice echo what I believe are conservative perspectives today, and although there is reason to believe he also had very liberal stances on economics etc. all Americans have a fair claim to some of his beliefs, his speeches "I have a Dream," "Mountain Top," and his letter from Birmingham jail are some of the most powerful words ever declared and clearly transcend any party lines. Martin Luther King jr. despite being human, was and is an incredible American. When of my personal mottoes was initially stated by MLK jr., "an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"

Here are a couple of articles worth looking at:

COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF

Howard Dean, the "Yee Haw" Democratic presidential candidate of years past who is currently serving as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, is trying to find a way to end the fight between Hillary and Barack. Why?, because he too sees what a mess his rules and current DNC make up are creating as the public is beginning to sway towards republican candidate John McCain. Click here to read the article in the Washington Times that adequately describes the problem the DNC has created for itself in creating rules that have kept the race closer that it would have been in years past as well as fumbling and finding themselves unable to formally recognize votes in Florida and Michigan. Howard Dean's fears are real and already coming to fruition including the fear mentioned in the article that recognizes that the current presidential fight can be seen as the Democratic Party unable to govern itself let alone the country. I COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER MYSELF.

McCain Begins to Retell His Story

I have said before that when people hear his war/POW stories he will become the next president despite some of his own electorate not being so enthused about his stances. Well his campaign is beginning to open that chapter of the campaign. He began the narrative of his life on the campaign trail citing his military and honorable heritage, soon he will transition to his time in Vietnam. This is the winning strategy for McCain.
The democrats are playing into this by making the war in Iraq one of the main issues and combating McCain over a comment he made about a 100 year potential presence in Iraq. This has been their strategy form the get go because the war is so unpopular, it is a strategy that may have worked against any other republican candidate. However, McCain will win if the main issue of this presidential campaign has anything to do with military or war, once people familiarize or re-familiarize themselves with his story coupled with recent successes in Iraq. Even if they begin to recognize the failed strategy McCain can site his story when talking about other issues, for example his story regarding the pledge of allegiance.........

"As you may know, I spent five and one half years as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. In the early years of our imprisonment, the NVA kept us in solitary confinement or two or three to a cell. In 1971 the NVA moved us from these conditions of isolation into large rooms with as many as 30 to 40 men to a room.

This was, as you can imagine, a wonderful change and was a direct result of the efforts of millions of Americans on behalf of a few hundred POWs 10,000 miles from home.

One of the men who moved into my room was a young man named Mike Christian.

Mike came from a small town near Selma , Alabama . He didn't wear a pair of shoes until he was 13 years old. At 17, he enlisted in the US Navy. He later earned a commission by going to Officer Training School Then he became a Naval Flight Officer and was shot down and captured in 1967. Mike had a keen and deep appreciation of the opportunities this country and our military provide for people who want to work and want to succeed.

As part of the change in treatment, the Vietnamese allowed some prisoners to receive packages from home. In some of these packages were handkerchiefs, scarves and other items of clothing.

Mike got himself a bamboo needle. Over a period of a couple of months, he created an American flag and sewed on the inside of his shirt.

Every afternoon, before we had a bowl of soup, we would hang Mike's shirt on the wall of the cell and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

I know the Pledge of Allegiance may not seem the most important part of our day now, but I can assure you that in that stark cell it was indeed the most important and meaningful event.

One day the Vietnamese searched our cell, as they did periodically, and discovered Mike's shirt with the flag sewn inside, and removed it.

That evening they returned, opened the door of the cell, and for the benefit of all of us, beat Mike Christian severely for the next couple of hours. Then, they opened the door of the cell and threw him in. We cleaned him up as well as we could.

The cell in which we lived had a concrete slab in the middle on which we slept Four naked light bulbs hung in each corner of the room.

As I said, we tried to clean up Mike as well as we could. After the excitement died down, I looked in the corner of the room, and sitting there beneath that dim light bulb with a piece of red cloth, another shirt and his bamboo needle, was my friend, Mike Christian. He was sitting there with his eyes almost shut from the beating he had received, making another American flag. He was not making the flag because it made Mike Christian feel better. He was making that flag because he knew how important it was to us to be able to Pledge our allegiance to our flag and country.

So the next time you say the Pledge of Allegiance, you must never forget the sacrifice and courage that thousands of Americans have made to build our nation and promote freedom around the world. You must remember our duty, our honor, and our country."

How can you not vote for that???????

For the DNC, When it Rains it Pours!

The democrats are making it worse by applying pressure to Hillary to drop out causing her to fight back. it just keeps getting uglier, for the story from foxnews click the link below....

Clinton Fights Pressure to Withdraw, Tees Up for Fight With Party Elders

The GOP ticket?

McCain and Romney are on the road together raising funds starting with a visit to Romney country in Utah, they are also on there way to Colorado and maybe a few other places. This is another hint that McCain is at least very interested in having Romney be his Vice President as the Drudge Report suggested in the above image. For more about their trip check out this link...

Hillary takes the gloves off and in turn helps Mcain

Hillary has rekindled the criticism of Barack Obama and his now infamous pastor using the language of Rush Limbaugh of all sources to point out that we can't pick our family members but we can pick our pastors, Hillary exclaimed, "I think given all we have heard and seen, he would not have been my pastor." This story has proven to truly put a dent in the armor of Obama, who's breastplate and shield had previously looked nearly perfect. The myth of Obama is speedily deteriorating and the heated democratic contest is beginning to take a major toll as reported in the following links.

Gallup Poll: Many Democrats Ready to Vote McCain if Their First Choice Doesn’t Make It to November

And it is not just fox news reporting it it is all over the newspapers, radio, as well as in the following link to CNN

Poll: Democrats ready to defect to McCain

And if CNN is reluctantly reporting the story than clearly the truth was too compelling to ignore. The fact is the democratic race is creating enough animosity between the 2 sides now that they would rather vote for John Mcain than the democratic rival, a revelation that was not even on the horizon a couple of months back. Hillary has taken the attitude; if I am going down I am taking Obama down with me and nothing could be better for the FORMER underdog John Mcain. Couple this information with the fact that America will refamiliarize themselves with the heroic war stories of John Mcain and as I predicted John Mcain will end up on top.

Party for the poor?

Obama's taxes from 2006 are in, he made nearly a million dollars 2006, paid over $300,000 in taxes and got a 40,000 return. Good for you Obama, just don't call the republicans the party for the rich. Oh and by the way it was a capitalistic society that allowed you, hillary, and the republican rich to become rich. In fact I think Barrack and Hillary each have more money than John Mcain. Huh?, so which party is in it for the money?......you hypocritical limousine liberals make me sick.

The Myriad of Events

First, I should apologize, for waiting so long to post another entry. I suppose I was thinking the venture was too trying in light of large democratic turnouts when compared to the republican numbers. I began to get excited, however, when the New York 'liberal' Post was stupid enough to try and attack Mcain, not only with unnamed source but unnamed sources that fall far short of actually communicating anything. It is equivalent to saying, "an unknown individual who might be close the the Mcain camp may have said that there could be an appearance of impropriety between Mcain and a lobbyist, if this unknown individual remembers correctly." It is the kind of blatant bias that just might get conservatives, not unlike myself, more reason to support Mcain.
Then you have the War banter going back and forth between Obama and Mcain. Obama revealed his ignorance to the presence of Al Queda in Iraq and began to show weakness in foreign policy, where Mcain excels. I can picture Obama and Mcain debates now, where Mcain can say I know War better than anybody, I have been in it, I was a Prisoner of War, I refused to leave the POW camp without my "band of brothers." Obama will continue to say the war was a mistake that he was always against while Mcain will be able to say I was for it at the beginning, I was for fixing it when it was bad, and for it still when it is working!!!! So the only thing we have to prove is that the troop surge is working to the public at large which are slow to pick up the news out of Iraq, (maybe media bias again?).
I think the deep dark secret that is the success of the current Troop Surge is beginning to be revealed, as Democrats are scrambling to lock up that little secret for a bit longer for political points, after all how can the Dems possibly say, with any credibility, that maybe now the war isn't as bad as I thought. How do I know the Troop Surge is beginning to gain traction?.......Because if a Hollywood Starlet and special Goodwill Ambassador to the U.N. can admit it is going good than it really must be........That is right Angelina Jolie is cited in an article in the Washington Post explaining that the Troop Surge is providing opportunities for humanitarian programs to help refugees that did not previously exist. Translation.....it is getting safer and safer to be in Iraq, fewer civilians and U.S. troops are dying and Democracy is growing, albeit slowly, it is growing.
If the Troop Surge successes persist sooner or later even the liberal media outlets may have to start admitting it, but lets be honest, they are not going to be quick to do that, so "we the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union..." must press the issue in our daily conversations, in e-mails to media outlets, on our blogs, e-mails to our congressmen, and especially in e-mails to media outlets that may be presenting debate questions from e-mailers to the democratic candidates. ......Let's Roll!

Mild Depression

Yes, I have been sulking since Romney withdrew, but I am optimistic about his political future. His drop out speech in front of CPAC (Conservative Political Action Conference) was one of his best, and his withdrawal - Noble. The political buzz in the Republican party is that he has set himself as the leader of the Republican party and is the front runner for the next good presidential opportunity whether that be in 2012 or 2016. A survey of people leaving CPAC declared regret by Republicans for not jumping on the Romney bandwagon a while ago. Many were hesitant because of his past, but forsaken liberal stance on abortion, and some because of his Mormonism. That regret equals a unified front next go around. The only thing Romney needs to do until then is stay in the limelight by making good news and campaigning for fellow conservatives.
Now, many of you are still saying you cannot vote for Mcain. Make no mistake about it, I am not a Mcain fan!!! BUT if you are thinking you will stay home, vote for a democrat, or write in someone else you are not thinking straight or do not realize the alternative (See my Blog "Mcain Haters"). Mcain's strong suits are reason enough to vote for him.

1) Winning in Iraq, the troop surge is working and Iraqis are finally taking some control of their destiny, which took longer than expected, but they have been forced to be followers their whole life, should we expect them to change overnight. Any alternative (Obama or Clinton) to Mcain spells rapid pullout of Iraq, which would be unfair to the Iraqi people. Where is your compassion?
2) Mcain has been beating the drum for a line item veto in order to prevent arbitrary and costly last minute additions to bills passed through congress. I believe he can make a huge first step to curbing spending in Washington D.C.

He may not be perfect, but these two reasons are reason enough to vote for Mcain versus the socialist leftist options, additionally Mcain has promised to appoint conservatives to the bench. So I say with Hail to the Chief for Mcain despite my lack of enthusiasm.

Thanks,

Jonathan Mayne

Not so super Tuesday

Super Tuesday rushed by without the long drawn out nail-bitting for all of the California vote to come in, why? because it was over too quick. It was not supposed to be like this. Romney's momentum was to be gained by wins in West Virginia, close finishes and possible victories in Georgia, Missouri, and California. West Virginia was stolen from him by shifty Mcain delagates switching to Huckabee in order to block Romney only to create another monster by installing a false confidence in Huchabee's camp. Missouri, Georgia, as well as some if not all of the Huckabee wins would have been Romney's and Mitt would be in striking distance of Mcain if it were not for Huckabee.
Why?
It is all personal!
I am not sure if Hucabee and Mcain have a pact together or not. I don't think Mike Huckabee needs an alliance to motivate himself to block Romney. Huckabee is a southern baptist and has a religiously determined hatred for Mormonism that is often taught officially by southern baptists. This was evident in the first jab in the New York Times by Huckabee intimating that Mormons believe Satan and Christ were brothers in a misleading and over simplistic view of Mormon Doctrines often regurgitated by Southern Baptists. I might remind Huckabee that his assertions were before the attack ads of Iowa. Hmmm, Who struck first?
Conservatives need to realize that there party is being hijacked by a liberal leaning Mcain and supported by pure archaic bigotry from someone who is willing to sell out his party's beliefs and sacrifice them at an alter of pure hatred. If true conservatives can see this, they should respond and reject the Huckabee push and rebuke him. They should contact Huckabee's camp and rebuke them, you can find their contact information at www.mikehuckabee.com.
If there is any hope of having a conservative win the oval office, then Mitt Romney needs to pretty much sweep the next few states and somehow force Huckabee out while gaining a near revolutionary amount of momentum.
The more likely scenario is for him to try to gain some momentum and solidify his spot as a voice for conservatism and spend time the next few years cementing a greater grassroots support system (where Huckabee has done well) and create himself as the spokesperson of the Republican Party and the frontrunner for the next nomination when conservatives should be motivated and even upset at years of liberalism running a muck whether by Democrats or by the lefty's of the republican party, even though they may only have themselves to blame.

Wait a Minute Mcain Haters

I have recently encountered some outrageous and reactionary thoughts on other blogs and in discussions with my friends who happen to hate Mcain. They are Romney fans who are growing understandably afraid that Mcain will win the nomination (thanks to Romney and Huckabee splitting the same constituency). Their anger has driven them to irrational conclusions listed here:

1) One suggests that Hillary Clinton as President might ultimately be a great thing that will promote the Republicans taking over congress again and then republicans ousting Hillary after 1 term. This option is very bad even if it rings true. As a genuinely concerned patriot the thought of pulling out of a drastically improving Iraq is extremely frightening for me and my family. Think of what would be left behind and how many emboldened terrorists would then feel confident in attacking Americans here or abroad. Even if my friends plan rang true, which is not a given by any stretch of the imagination, you are giving up too much ground in the short run. I have to ask is Mcain really that bad?

2) The aforementioned blogger exclaims that Mcain is so liberal that Barack Obama may be the more conservative and better option. I say think about things before you write them. Obama is still for a near immediate withdrawal from Iraq, he is still pro-choice, he is still for a socialist approach to Medicare and economics. John Mcain is none of those things despite some liberal ideas about campaign finance reform and unclear explanations for his pro-life stance, but it is a pro-life stance none the less.

Make no mistake about it, I am not the biggest Mcain fan in the world, even less so since his dirty trick to label Romney as a "timtable for withdrawal" guy, and I am voting for Romney while desperately hoping that Mike Huckabee gets past his archaic baptist fed conceptions of Mormonism and drops out and endorses/teams up with Romney which assuredly would seal up the nomination.

The bottom line is this... John Mcain may not be the best option for president, but if the options are him or a democrat, trust me he is still a better option, and he has a good chance of winning against Hillary because no one, save a resurrected Ronald Reagan, can turn out the republican base like Hillary Clinton.
